Can Technology Be Bad For Our Health?

You know one great thing that I feel should cause for some concern is the fact the all this sitting around that we do playing, or working, or paying bills we do online will directly affect our levels of physical activity, thus have serious impacts on our quality of life. The article "Technology in Schools Some Say it Doesn't Compute!", draws you're attention to several possible physical problems that may arise over long term subjection to heavy use of the computer. It is however, in reference to younger children, but I feel it stretches true straight across the age board. Concerns included: "the possibility of visual and postural problems, repetitive-motion injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome", becoming sedentary and non interactive, losing the use of motor and social skills, temper tantrums caused by breakdowns, or other things not being as fast as computers can be, being plain lazy! It seems to ring through true for me. Many people are overweight or just on the verge. Our activity levels will plummet country wide. Can we afford to exchange our health for whats easy??? Sure its as simple as staying active, but lets face it, we all know even that is hard for most. So people are spending upwards of 7 or 8 hours on the computer, with just one sitting, and that will only increase with more time. I believe that it will be harder than ever to find a balance of spending time on the computer, and getting out and interacting with other human beings, and just simply not being a lazy hermit! I think the big thing is are these problems preventable or are we forced to accept thats sort of a pitfall to habitual computer use. Is there any way to prevent getting a bad back from sitting in front of the computer all day?? Also, are these physicals problems long term??? We may never know, perhaps it is something we will never attribute to being on the computer, we may never make that connection.
